All email programs work in a similar way. We are going to look at Eudora Light and Outlook Express.

Send a message and or Attachment.paperclip

Eudora Light :

  • From the Message menu, click New message .
  • A blank message will appear , ready to be written.
  • Next fill in ;
    To: the persons email address
    FROM: your name and email address(if address is not there)
    SUBJECT: the subject of your message
  • Type your message in the larger blank block just below.
  • Click on the 'paper clip' icon if you want to send an attachment with. You'll be prompted to find the file you want to attach. Find the file on your hard drive or floppy disk and click 'Open'. You should see the attached file in the bottom of the email message. (Make sure the other person has a program to open the file)
  • Connect to the internet(if not already) and click 'Send' .

Outlook Express :

  • From the Welcome page click on Compose a message or click the Compose Message button.
  • The blank message will appear.
  • Fill in the other person's email address and subject.
  • Write your message in the big empty block below.
  • Click on the paper clip icon if you want to send an attachment with, or from the Insert menu select File Attachment . You'll be prompted to find the file you want to attach. Find the file on your hard drive or floppy disk and click Attach. You should then see the attached file in the bottom frame.
  • Click Send it will ask you to connect if not connected yet.

Download your Mail.
You have to be connected .
Eudora Light :

  • From the File menu select Check mail .
  • Your computer will let you know if you have any new mail.
  • The messages will appear in your 'In' mailbox. All unread messages have a dot to the left of them.
  • Double click on the message to read it.
  • Double click the attachment(file) that you have received with your message. If the file didn't open ,you will be prompted to save it to disk, click 'Yes' and choose a file where to save it in . Then you can execute the attached file, from the file that you have saved it in.

Outlook Express :

  • From the Welcome screen, click Read Mail or from the Tools menu select Send and Receive . This will then send all outgoing messages and download new mail into your 'Inbox' .
  • All unread messages have an envelope to the left of them.
  • Double click on the message and it will appear in the lower frame to read.
  • Double click the attachment(file) that you have received with your message. If the file didn't open ,you will be prompted to save it to disk, click 'Yes' and choose a file where to save it in . Then you can execute the attached file, from the file that you have saved it in.

Working Offline - save on the phone bill

Start your email program, without connecting to the internet, Eudora, Outlook or whatever - then compose messages you want to send. When finished, connect to the internet , "send and receive" your email. Now disconnect from the internet and read your messages, composing any replies as you go.Once completed, connect again , send your replies and disconnect.The connection time is then limited.
