Basically, its a glogal system of linked computer networks, millions of computers connected together, all speaking to each other over phone lines. It lets you exchange information via e - mail, www, newsgroups and File Transfer Protocol(FTP), often called the "information superhighway". Developed by the U.S.Department of Defense in the late 1960's and started to take off when academics began using it to share papers. The World Wide Web a relatively new service, then dragged the text-based internet of the '70s and '80s into the multimedia '90s.
E - mail, Usenet newsgroups and FTP are just some of the services the internet provide for us.Then there is the World Wide Web, which wil make your life more colourful with pictures, sound, video and animation.
Move through millions of web pages by just clicking on hyperlinks.A link , or hyperlink, acts as a bridge between separate web pages. A hyperlink, usually in blue underlined text, can also be a picture, so move your mouse around and explore each page.
